Ashley Zhao was five years old when she was declared missing on January 9, 2017. The parents who owned a restaurants in Jackson Township, Ohio, told the police she may have "wandered out through the back door."
The search for Ashley was so intense that the police sent a Statewide Endangered Child Alert with her picture to all phone users within the state, and several volunteers came out to assist in searching for her.
After weeks of fruitless search, police noticed a lack of pressure from Ashley's parents especially her mother (as expected of parents who's kid is missing) so they decided to searched their restaurant, the discovery was heartbreaking: Ashley's tiny body was found "concealed" in a salt container in the freezer to reduce the stench from the body.
Ashley's mother confessed to assaulting her by punching her on the face severally until she died while her father confessed to helping his wife conceal the body.
The woman was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for involuntary manslaughter while her husband was sentenced to 12 years for obstruction of justice and corpse abuse.
The woman will be deported back to China upon completion of her prison time as she was an illigal immigrant at the time of the incident.
